State Rep. David Hillman of Almyra announced his switch to the Republican Party on Tuesday weeks after being re-elected to his third term as a Democrat, solidifying the GOP's "supermajority" control of Arkansas' lower house.
Republicans picked up nine seats in the 100-member House on Election Day and then padded their lead the next day when then-Democratic Rep. Jeff Wardlaw of Hermitage announced his party switch.
With Hillman's announcement, Republicans now control 75 seats in the House and have the three-fourths majority needed to pass appropriations bills without any support from Democrats. The Democrats narrowly avoided having Republicans pick up a supermajority in the Senate, whe...

If you've read or turned on the news in the past few days, you most likely have seen the destruction currently taking place in Louisiana due to historic flooding. Nearly a third of all the homes in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, have been flooded as floodwater overtopped a levee along the Amite River, the Baton Rouge Advocate says. Though skies have cleared as of Tuesday morning, the region is still dealing with the massive amount of water left behind, which is responsible for at least seven deaths and is pushing flood control systems to their limits. Over 30,000 people have been rescued with more than that damaged and destroyed.

The safe return of American hostages from Iran should be celebrated, but we can’t ignore what we gave up for their return: $400 million in cold, hard, untraceable cash to the terror-sponsoring ayatollahs. We turned a centuries-old precedent of not paying ransom on its head.
By President Obama’s own admission, paying ransom is a dangerous, unwise gamble that “risks endangering more Americans and funding the very terrorism that we’re trying to stop.”
It’s important to remember we shouldn’t have been in the position of negotiating for the release of these...
At the ARYR, it is our goal to keep you updated on all of the party's platforms and inform you on key decisions being made in our state and nation. In July, delegates to the Republican National Convention adopted the official 2016 Platform of the party. The Platform declares the Party's principles and policies.
The Republican Party is energized to lead a turnaround from the failed policies of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, and this platform provides a thorough look at how we will restore prosperity and security to our country.
