Special Call to Action: Our Louisiana neighbors need your help!

If you've read or turned on the news in the past few days, you most likely have seen the destruction currently taking place in Louisiana due to historic flooding. Nearly a third of all the homes in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, have been flooded as floodwater overtopped a levee along the Amite River, the Baton Rouge Advocate says. Though skies have cleared as of Tuesday morning, the region is still dealing with the massive amount of water left behind, which is responsible for at least seven deaths and is pushing flood control systems to their limits. Over 30,000 people have been rescued with more than that damaged and destroyed.

"The next 24 to 48 hours is going to be a significant indication of just how much risk the parish remains in," Rick Webre, director of the parish Office of Homeland Security, said in an emergency statement this afternoon.

The AFYR is teaming up with the Louisiana Young Republican Federation and the Salvation Army to collect disaster relief items for victims of the Louisiana floods. The Republican Party of Arkansas headquarters in Little Rock will serve as a drop-off point for donations beginning Wednesday, August 17th through Monday, August 22nd from 9:00am - 4:00pm each day, including through the weekend.
